The DOKU module adds free text blocks to the calculation documentation. Explanations, assumptions, boundary conditions, inspection notes or project-specific remarks can be inserted directly into the calculation sequence and printed together with the calculation modules – the finished documentation then reads as one continuous document instead of a loose collection of individual verifications.

In addition, your own Word files can be embedded, such as company cover sheets, material certificates, sketches or declarations required by the applicable code. In pressure equipment practice, this matters most for documents subject to third-party review: the strength calculation of a pressure vessel is supplemented, for the inspector or notified body, with exactly those explanatory texts that the bare columns of numbers do not convey.

Calculation workflow

  1. Create a text block: A DOKU module is inserted at the desired position in the calculation project. The text is entered directly and later appears at exactly this position in the printed documentation.
  2. Embed a Word file: Alternatively or additionally, an existing Word file is referenced, for example a cover sheet, a legend or a company-specific form. The file is printed together with the documentation.
  3. Set the position in the calculation sequence: Since DOKU modules are arranged in the project structure like calculation modules, their order determines the structure of the final document – for example an introductory section before the strength calculation and an inspection note at the end.
  4. Print the documentation: When the project is printed, calculation results and additional texts are merged in a single pass into one coherent calculation documentation package.

Frequently asked questions

Why do you need free text blocks in a strength calculation?

Codes such as the German AD 2000 rules or EN 13445 require calculation documents that can be followed and verified. Assumptions about load cases, justifications for chosen safety factors, references to drawings or deviations from the standard case cannot be accommodated in the input fields of the calculation modules – they belong in the documentation as explanatory text. DOKU ensures that these texts are firmly tied to the project and appear in the right place every time the documentation is printed.

Are embedded Word files stored with the project or only linked?

The Word file is assigned to the project via the DOKU module and is printed together with the documentation. If the source file is changed later, you should check before submitting the documents that the embedded version still matches the intended state – especially for documents subject to third-party review by inspectors.
