Engineering task and calculation objective
The ZUSA module compiles texts and numerical values from the calculation modules of a project into a dedicated documentation sheet. Instead of manually transferring results from many individual input masks into a cover sheet or results overview, the relevant quantities — such as design pressures, wall thicknesses, utilization ratios or heat duties — are taken directly from the linked modules and combined with explanatory texts.
In practice, ZUSA serves as the cover or closing sheet of a pressure vessel calculation: it bundles the governing results of a calculation spanning several modules (e.g. cylindrical shell, heads, nozzles, flanges) into a compact summary for inspectors, customers or internal documentation. Since the values are referenced rather than retyped, the summary stays consistent with the detailed calculations whenever input data change — a typical source of error in manually maintained result lists is eliminated.
Calculation workflow
- Select the quantities to be summarized: From the modules of the project, the numerical values to appear in the summary are selected — for example design pressure and temperature, required and actual wall thicknesses, or safety factors.
- Add texts: Free text lines structure the summary: headings, component designations, material specifications and remarks are arranged between the adopted numerical values.
- Maintain and output the summary: If input data in the detail modules change, the referenced values in the summary update along with them; the sheet is output as part of the calculation report.

Frequently asked questions
What is the advantage over a manually maintained result list?
Manually transferred results become outdated as soon as a detailed calculation is changed — for extensive pressure vessel calculations with many modules, this is a real source of error in inspection documents. ZUSA references the values from the source modules, so summary and detailed calculation always show the same revision state.
Does ZUSA perform any calculations of its own?
No. ZUSA is a pure documentation module: it takes over numbers from other modules and combines them with texts, but performs no calculations itself. The technical responsibility for the values lies with the respective calculation modules, whose reports remain part of the complete documentation.
What is such a summary sheet typically used for?
Common applications are the cover sheet of a vessel calculation with the governing design data, the results overview for the inspection body, or a customer-specific short documentation that reports only the main results of a multi-part calculation.
